{"id":6725,"date":"2024-12-09T11:10:28","date_gmt":"2024-12-09T11:10:28","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.scottishspca.org\/news\/hard-hitting-advert-released-to-help-tackle-puppy-smuggling-this-christmas\/"},"modified":"2025-03-03T10:07:48","modified_gmt":"2025-03-03T10:07:48","slug":"hard-hitting-advert-released-to-help-tackle-puppy-smuggling-this-christmas","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.scottishspca.org\/news\/hard-hitting-advert-released-to-help-tackle-puppy-smuggling-this-christmas\/","title":{"rendered":"Rabbits abandoned in a recycling bin in Ayr"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"paragraph-6138\" class=\"paragraph paragraph--type--content-with-summary paragraph--view-mode--default\">\n<div class=\"clearfix text-formatted field field--name-field-content-with-summary field--type-text-with-summary field--label-hidden field__item\">\n<h2 class=\"h3\">We are\u00a0pleading with the public not to abandon animals they can no longer care for.<\/h2>\n<p>Last week two male rabbits were found dumped in a recycling bin behind a retail park in Ayr \u2013 a week apart.<\/p>\n<p>Bin collectors came across the first rabbit inside a wheelie bin and reported it to the charity. \u00a0The white albino rabbit was dirty but otherwise alert and was taken to one of the animal rescue centres.<\/p>\n<p>The following week the same collectors found a second rabbit in the bin who was very similar to the first rabbit but had injuries to his testicles.<\/p>\n<p>Scottish SPCA inspector Caitlin Rea said: \u201cWe can\u2019t stress enough that there is no excuse to abandon an animal. There are always other options.<br \/>\n\u201cThese rabbits were lucky to have been found when they did as the outcome would have been very different.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe injury to the second rabbit would have likely been caused by fighting with another rabbit. \u00a0We took him to the vets and he needed emergency castrating surgery.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBoth are now doing well and recovering from their ordeal.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThese rabbits were left in a dangerous situation and we would urge anyone unable to care for their pets to contact us for support and advice.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIf anyone recognises these rabbits or has any information surrounding their circumstances, they should call our confidential animal helpline on 03000 999 999.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>We are\u00a0pleading with the public not to abandon animals they can no longer care for.
