{"id":65525,"date":"2025-01-20T11:26:28","date_gmt":"2025-01-20T11:26:28","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.scottishspca.org\/?p=65525"},"modified":"2025-03-03T10:06:18","modified_gmt":"2025-03-03T10:06:18","slug":"abandoned-kitten-found-dead-in-woodland","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.scottishspca.org\/news\/abandoned-kitten-found-dead-in-woodland\/","title":{"rendered":"Abandoned kitten found dead in woodland"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"block-wrapper my-5 core-paragraph\"><div class=\"container-xxl\"><p>We are urgently asking the public not to abandon animals they can no longer care for, following the tragic discovery of a dead kitten in Lanarkshire on Thursday, January 16.<\/p><\/div><\/div><div class=\"block-wrapper my-5 core-paragraph\"><div class=\"container-xxl\"><p>The kitten was found in an open wicker basket, accompanied by a grey blanket and a soft toy, in the woodland undergrowth of the Foulburn Road area in Shotts.<\/p><\/div><\/div><div class=\"block-wrapper my-5 core-paragraph\"><div class=\"container-xxl\"><p>Scottish SPCA Inspector Steph McCrossan said, \u201cWe cannot stress enough that there is no excuse for abandoning an animal. There are always other options available.\u201d<\/p><\/div><\/div><div class=\"block-wrapper my-5 core-paragraph\"><div class=\"container-xxl\"><p>The kitten, believed to be female, was likely alive when she was abandoned. Unfortunately, she had been left with some cold meat that tragically became lodged in her throat. When found, she was emaciated and covered in feces.<\/p><\/div><\/div><div class=\"block-wrapper my-5 core-paragraph\"><div class=\"container-xxl\"><p>With no CCTV footage available, we are asking the public for assistance.<\/p><\/div><\/div><div class=\"block-wrapper my-5 core-paragraph\"><div class=\"container-xxl\"><p>\u201cIf anyone recognises this kitten or has any information about her circumstances, please call our confidential animal helpline at 03000 999 999.\u201d<\/p><\/div><\/div>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>We are urgently asking the public not to abandon animals they can no longer care for, following the tragic discovery of a dead kitten in Lanarkshire on Thursday, January 16.
