{"id":4165,"date":"2022-05-27T10:23:20","date_gmt":"2022-05-27T10:23:20","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.scottishspca.org\/news-appeal-for-information-after-dog-abandoned-near-aberdeenshire-centre\/"},"modified":"2025-01-07T14:29:33","modified_gmt":"2025-01-07T14:29:33","slug":"appeal-for-information-after-dog-abandoned-near-aberdeenshire-centre","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.scottishspca.org\/news\/appeal-for-information-after-dog-abandoned-near-aberdeenshire-centre\/","title":{"rendered":"Appeal for information after dog abandoned near Aberdeenshire centre"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"paragraph-3904\" class=\"paragraph paragraph--type--content-with-summary paragraph--view-mode--default\">\n<div class=\"clearfix text-formatted field field--name-field-content-with-summary field--type-text-with-summary field--label-hidden field__item\">\n<h2 class=\"h4\">We are appealing for information after a female dog was abandoned near our Aberdeenshire Animal Rescue and Rehoming Centre on 10 May. <\/h2>\n<p>We were alerted to the incident when a member of the public handed the elderly spaniel in to the centre after finding her off the A96 nearby.<\/p>\n<p>Scottish SPCA inspector, Kathryn McCallum, said, \u201cThe dog is an elderly, female, black and white spaniel.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cShe was in very poor condition when she was found with severe dental disease, dry eye and large masses all over her body.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe dog also had extremely overgrown nails, one was so long it was curling back in to the pad of her paw. The wound was very infected and covered by an old, bloody bandage.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cShe was not chipped or wearing a collar when she was found.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSadly, due to a large mass that was found during her examination, the decision was taken to put the dog to sleep and end her suffering on veterinary advice.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe understand that people\u2019s circumstances can change, but this is not the right way to give up an animal. The dog would have been caused a great deal of unnecessary distress at a time when she was already in considerable pain and discomfort.&nbsp; <\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;\u201cWe are urging anyone who recognises this dog, or has any information to please contact our confidential animal helpline on 03000 999 999.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>We are appealing for information after a female dog was abandoned near our Aberdeenshire Animal Rescue and Rehoming Centre on 10 May.
