We are appealing to animal lovers to donate food for animals through our Pet Aid programme.

Pet Aid is the charity’s initiative to support people who are struggling with the cost of caring for an animal during the cost-of-living crisis.

From December Pet Aid will be supporting 33 food banks in 12 local authorities with 16 more foodbanks looking to join the initiative.

Calls to the Scottish SPCA’s animal helpline from people looking to give up a pet have more than trebled in 2022.

Pet Aid co-ordinator, Carrie Giannelli said, “Through Pet Aid, we provide essential food supplies for animals through a network of food banks across most of Scotland. Keeping pets and people together helps to improve both human and animal welfare.

“Many people who call our helpline don’t want to give up their animal but feel they have no choice. Through Pet Aid, we can offer these people vital support and keep people and their pets together.

“Nobody should have to give up their pet because they are unable to afford the items they need.

“We’d be so grateful for any donations that people can spare and we know the people and pets using our Pet Aid programme will be too.”
