{"id":3840,"date":"2023-08-02T08:37:34","date_gmt":"2023-08-02T08:37:34","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.scottishspca.org\/news-blantyre-woman-fined-ps300\/"},"modified":"2025-01-15T11:07:41","modified_gmt":"2025-01-15T11:07:41","slug":"blantyre-woman-fined-ps300","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.scottishspca.org\/news\/blantyre-woman-fined-ps300\/","title":{"rendered":"Blantyre woman fined \u00a3300"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"paragraph-4742\" class=\"paragraph paragraph--type--content-with-summary paragraph--view-mode--default\">\n<div class=\"clearfix text-formatted field field--name-field-content-with-summary field--type-text-with-summary field--label-hidden field__item\">\n<h2 class=\"h4\">&nbsp;<\/h2>\n<h2 class=\"h4\">A Blantyre woman has been handed a \u00a3300 fine with \u00a320 victim surcharge for failing to provide veterinary treatment after the ears of her American XL bully pup, Karma, were illegally cropped.<\/h2>\n<p>39-year-old Lisa Barrett of Nordic Crescent, Blantyre, pled guilty at Hamilton Sheriff Court on 31 July to failing to provide veterinary treatment for the puppy.<\/p>\n<p>A Scottish SPCA special investigations unit inspector involved in the case said \u201cWe attended a premises in Blantyre on 16 August 2022 and found Karma, an American XL bully puppy, at the property with cropped ears.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe immediately removed the dog due to concerns for her welfare. It was determined by a vet that the ear cropping would have taken place around two to three weeks prior. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis illegal procedure would have caused Karma considerable pain and discomfort for purely cosmetic reasons. In the UK, as ear cropping is a prohibited procedure, any operation is also unlikely to be carried out with appropriate anaesthetic or pain relief.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBarrett did not take Karma to see a veterinary surgeon after the illegal procedure had been carried and, even then, she was taken to the veterinary clinic for her vaccinations and not for her ears. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cKarma had the stitches removed from her ears after she came into Barrett\u2019s care.
