The service, that supplies food and other items to struggling pet owners, now covers 69 food banks across Scotland in 18 local authorities.

Generous members of the public donate all the items supplied through the Pet Aid service.

So far this year, our Pet Aid service has provided almost 12,000 daily meals for cats and dogs.

We have also recruited 21 Pet Aid volunteers but we need more to support the delivery of pet food donations.

Scottish SPCA Pet Aid coordinator, Carrie Giannelli, said, “No one should have to give up a beloved pet because they can’t afford to feed them.

“We wouldn’t be able to provide this vital service without the generosity of the general public as we rely solely on donations.

“We know times are tough at the moment but we’d be so grateful for any donations to help pets and people who need it most.

“We can accept wet and dry dog and cat food as long as it’s unopened and in date or close to its sell by date. We can also accept unopened dog and cat treats as long as they don’t contain rawhide.

“We have over 50 donation points across Scotland where people can drop off anything they’d like to donate. Alternatively, items can be handed into the reception at any of our animal rescue and rehoming centres.

“We also have a Pet Aid Amazon wishlist for anyone who would like to donate items online.

“So many people are struggling to care for their animals due to financial pressures that any small donation will go a long way to helping make sure animals and people don’t suffer.

“We’d be grateful for anything people can spare and we know the pets and people they’re helping will be so appreciative.”

A full list of donation sites and information on the Amazon wishlist can be found on our website

If you would like to volunteer with our Pet Aid service or you are a food bank looking to come on board, you will find all the information you need here. We are appealing for donations from members of the public for our Pet Aid service as supplies of vital pet food for owners in need are running low.
